First and Emergency Aid Program

General Information

It is an associate degree program that trains first and emergency aid technicians who can apply the first and emergency medical aid they need to the sick and/or injured in pre-hospital emergency health services, and who can deliver the patient/injured to the health institution safely and quickly by ambulance. In our country, emergency medicine technicians, who are needed by emergency health services, have been trained with changing names since 1993.

Due to the diversity of the working environment and the nature of emergencies, the candidates who will choose this department should be able to make quick and correct decisions, be careful, innovative, enterprising, responsible, adhere to ethical values, constantly improve themselves, adapt to changing conditions, have problem-solving skills, It is expected that he is productive, able to communicate effectively with his environment, be prone to teamwork, and also be able to drive an ambulance when necessary. 

First and Emergency Aid technician examines the patient's condition and environment at the scene, determines the problem by getting information from his relatives, applies first aid techniques to the patient according to the situation, provides the police or fire department help when necessary to place the patient in the ambulance safely, provides the emergency care service that the patient needs during the transfer. While delivering the patient to the health institution, it informs the relevant people about the patient's condition.

The First and Emergency Aid Program allows you to find a suitable occupation if you have most of the following qualifications:

History

At the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated 14.04.2010, on 06.05.2010 in our School; It was deemed appropriate to open the Department of Medical Services and Techniques / First and Emergency Aid Program.

At the Higher Education General Assembly meeting dated 22.09.2011, it was deemed appropriate to admit students to the Medical Services and Techniques / First and Emergency Aid (P.E.) Program of our School.

Gümüşhane University Kelkit SHMYO, Department of Medical Services and Techniques, First and Emergency Aid program accepted its first students in 2010-2011 and started education.


Purpose of the Program

Able to provide basic and advanced life support to the sick/injured in pre-hospital emergency health services; able to perform life-saving and preventive medical interventions until the actual treatment of the sick/injured; be able to recognize all kinds of system trauma, plan and implement the appropriate emergency approach; is to train assistant health personnel who ensure that the first aided patients or injured reach hospitals safely by ambulance.

 

Title Given to Graduates

Those who have completed the program are given the Associate Degree diploma and the title of "Health Technician" in accordance with the 7/d-2 and 43/b articles of the Law No. 

Duties of the Awarded Profession

The duties of the Emergency Medical Technician are defined as follows in the Regulation on the Job and Job Descriptions of Healthcare Professionals and Other Professionals Working in Health Services, published by the Ministry of Health in the Official Gazette dated 22 May 2014 and numbered 29007: 
a)Performs intravenous and intraosseous interventions. . 
b)Performs basic airway practices, endotracheal intubation and oxygen administration. 
c)Applies appropriate transport techniques. 
ç)Implements basic life support protocols. It uses semi-automatic and fully automatic external defibrillators during this application. 
d)With trauma stabilization, it provides stabilization in fractures, dislocations and sprains. 
e)It ensures that the patient is ready for transplantation. 
f)Performs wound closure and simple bleeding control. 
g)It helps the labor in case of emergency delivery. 
ğ)It helps monitorization and defibrillation. 
h)Uses the communication network accurately and quickly at all stages of his duty. 
ı) Keeps the ambulance ready for use in terms of technical, medical equipment and materials, and acts as a driver in the ambulance when necessary. 

Program Entry Requirements

Students are accepted by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) according to the TYT-2 score results and the principles determined by the Higher Education Council. Students must have met the necessary special conditions for the First and Emergency Aid Program. Prospective students must also meet the following conditions specified in the ÖSYM guide in order to be placed in the program: 

 • Students to be admitted to this program should receive a report certifying that they have a physical and mental health that does not prevent them from obtaining a driver's license; have sufficient body structure and strength for rescue and transportation; As it is compulsory to drive in the second grade as per the curriculum, they must have completed the age of 17 on the date of enrollment.

  
• Students who will be admitted to this program are required to obtain a report from state hospitals or university hospitals certifying that they have a physical and mental health that does not prevent them from obtaining a driver's license. 

Internship and Application Period

Our students do their summer internships, which are 30 working days, in the emergency services of hospitals, which are the health application and research center of our university, and at 112 ambulance stations. 

Main Fields of Study for Graduates of the Program: 
They are employed in public and private institutions serving in the health sector, universities, emergency services of hospitals, land, air and sea ambulances. In addition, there are employment areas in areas where first and emergency services are needed (such as search and rescue units of fire brigades and Kızılay within municipalities). 

Job Opportunities

Due to the increasing importance and effectiveness of a profession, employment opportunities are quite wide. As in the rest of the world, with the developments in pre-hospital health services in our country in recent years, there has been an increase in the employment opportunities of the graduates of the program, especially in 112 Emergency Health Services. 


Sections that can be preferred with the Vertical Transition System  

Students who successfully complete the First and Emergency Aid Program can transfer vertically to the "Emergency Aid and Disaster Management", "Nursing", "Nursing and Health Services" undergraduate programs of universities if they are successful in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
